SUBMIT YOUR PITCHThe Keepada Family, rooted in 17th century Kerala, India, has spanned fourteen generations since AD 1656. In 1998, Mr. Ginu George (12th Gen) launched Keepada Investments and SYNE Group in 2009, building a legacy of innovation and purpose-driven ventures.
The Keepada family traces its heritage back to the AD 1650s, when ancestors moved from the princely state of Travancore the state of Cochin for trade. The verified public records are dating back to AD 1687.
Between the 1700s and 1800s, documentation of the family lineage is limited. However, the family expanded into multiple branches across the region, primarily sustaining themselves through agriculture.
The documented lineage begins with Ittiyavara Mathew (b. 1808) and his family - the 6th Generation. His son, Mathew Cheria (b. 1834), had four children. The lineage from Mathew Cheria’s son, Ittiyavara Mathew (b. 1862), represents the eighth generation of the family.
Ittiyavara Mathew had four sons and two daughters - Mathew, Varkey, Cheria (b. 1895), Paulose, Sara, and Anna (9th Generation). The family was deeply rooted in agriculture and spice trade in central Travancore focused mainly on pepper, turmeric, and dried ginger.
The tenth generation comprised 21 children, who focused primarily on textiles, timber, metals, and spices, and many having careers in the government sector following India’s independence. Mr. Varkey Cheria (b. 1920), son of Cheria Ittiyavara, was a war veteran (d. 1986). The 11th generation included 66 children, among whom Mr. George Varkey (b. 1945, d. 2023) became the family’s first double graduate, earning honors in biological sciences and education.
The 12th generation comprised 82 children and became the most diverse and widely dispersed generation, with family members living across the world and pursuing a variety of paths. The 13th generation comprises 37 children, while the 14th and current generation includes 6 children. Today, the family comprises 222 individuals across more than 100 families, dispersed around the world from Americas to Oceania.
